Book Tag: The Aesthete Blogger Award

Hey, everyone! Today I bring you my very first book tag. Thank you so much to Ariel @ Gemini Book Nook for tagging me! Please check out her blog if you haven’t gotten the chance to yet! (Also I have to mention I’m a Gemini sun too because Gem solidarity lol). The award was created by Ashmita @ The Fictional Journal and I’m honored to be tagged!

About the award

  • And lastly, just so you know: I LOVE YOUR CREATIONS!
Tell me something about this world that you admire.

I know it’s kind of a cop-out but creativity is something I truly admire. It’s amazing to see how much life can be brought to words and how entire worlds can be built by authors. I love seeing how different book bloggers build their blogs and aesthetics and what they choose to write about. I love seeing how art has transformed over the centuries through different periods. How we’ve all changed the way we dress as different trends go in and out of style. The way that music has become so blended in its genres now. Creativity is infinite and I love it.

What is your favourite form of creativity?

Writing. I’ve dabbled in both original fiction and fan fiction and even though I’m by no means the next Shakespeare, writing always makes me smile and makes me feel like I’ve found a missing piece of myself. At the moment, blogging is a happy median for me since I’m getting to read books and also be creative with my written posts.

Share something you created.

I know this would be an opportune time to drop my ao3 but I’m far too shy to share it publicly. Instead I’m sharing one of my favorite Bookstagram photos I’ve posted so far.

Ariel’s Questions
Are there any upcoming book releases that you are really looking forward to?

Way too many! I’ve started drafting posts for the blog of my most anticipated releases each month to not only help me keep better track but also hopefully lead some of you to new finds. In May, I’m really looking forward to Sunkissed by Kasie West, Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard, Made in Korea by Sarah Suk, and Counting Down with You by Tashie Bhuiyan.

Do you speak any languages other than English? If not, which language(s) do you wish you were fluent in?

I always answer the question of “If you could have any superpower, what would it be?” that I’d choose to be able to speak and understand every language in the world. I would LOVE to have access to so much knowledge and learn about other cultures through this. Unfortunately, I don’t speak any other languages fluently (also my heritage is massively predominantly English (the UK) so I didn’t even have a chance to learn any other language natively rip). I took two years of Spanish in high school and I’ve retained a good chunk of it thanks to working in retail for the majority of my working life (and also thanks to many of my Hispanic coworkers who were willing to speak Spanish to me to help me work on it!) but I understand more than I’m able to speak. I still work on it by reading tweets in Spanish or reading YouTube comments and I feel like if I really applied myself, I could become fluent in a reasonable amount of time. I’d also love to be able to understand Korean so I wouldn’t have to read subtitles on things like Bangtan Bombs and k-dramas but that is very much a pipe dream for me lol.

Would you rather: explore the deep sea or space?

The deep sea! I don’t know why but the idea of being in space terrifies me (maybe this is a repercussion of reading The Lunar Chronicles lol). I’d love to be able to see the different creatures that live down there, especially in the deepest part of the ocean. Thankfully, I’m not claustrophobic so a submarine wouldn’t bother me either.

What’s your favourite TV show?

Decision making is NOT my strong suit. I definitely can’t pick just one. My default show to rewatch when I have nothing else new is Orange is the New Black so that probably counts for something. Other shows I’ve watched multiple times are TURN: Washington’s Spies, Hell on Wheels, You, American Horror Story, Mad Men, X-Files, Good Girls, Love O2O, and Strong Girl Bong-Soon.

My Questions:
  • If you could have any superpower in the world, what would it be?
  • What is a movie/tv show that you think actually did justice for the book?
  • Do you have any books that you had to read for school that you actually ended up enjoying?
  • Who is one of your auto-buy authors?

I Nominate:

I took a peek at each of your blogs to see if you’ve done this tag before, so if you have and I missed it (or you don’t like doing tags), my biggest apologies! Also if there’s any of you who haven’t done it before and would like to, consider yourselves tagged and please link me your post.

Happy reading!

  1. Gem solidarity haha I love that! I feel exactly the same way about languages down to the point that I’ve wished for that same superpower!! Thanks for doing this post, it was so fun to read your answers ☺️

  2. Congrats on the award Wren!!! πŸ₯³ I loved reading your answers. I also can’t wait to read Made in Korea this month! And ooh if you ever need any tips for learning Korean feel free to hit me up πŸ˜† Watching K-dramas without the subtitles is definitely a worthy goal!

And thanks so much for nominating me ❀️ I love your questions and I will try to answer them ASAP!!

    Great post Wren! πŸ’•

    1. Abby, I’m honestly hopeless but thank you! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ All I can say is μ•ˆλ…•ν•˜μ„œμš”. μ €λŠ” λͺŒκ°„ μž…λ‹ˆλ‹€. (I only know how to write my real name lol). λ§Œλ‚˜μ„œ λ°˜κ°‘μŠ΅λ‹ˆλ‹€. I probably wrote some of that wrong. I’m honestly so impressed by anyone who speaks English whose native language uses a different alphabet. Like how does your brain do that?? It’s so much brain power! But do know how jealous I am you don’t have to read subtitles! lol

I hope the tag is fun to do and I hope you’re having a great day/night. 😊

      1. μ•ˆλ…•ν•˜μ„Έμš” right back at you! πŸ˜‚ I can definitely see why Wren might be hard to write in Korean…

Believe me, if I knew how my brain does it I would be well on my way to becoming an linguistics expert πŸ˜… I literally have no recollection of ever learning Korean, I might as well have been born knowing the language πŸ˜‚ Which I’m very grateful for, both because of the connection to my culture, but also because it saved me the trouble of having to go to Saturday Korean school.

        Thank you! πŸ₯° λ‹Ήμ‹ μ˜ ν•œκ΅μ–΄ λ°°μš°λŠ” 여정을 μ‘μ›ν•©λ‹ˆλ‹€!!

      2. It’s such a beautiful language! I love listening to it even though I only understand a handful of words. Ahh I would’ve been so sad if I had to go to more school every Saturday, I’m glad you didn’t have to go too. πŸ˜‚ κ°μ‚¬ν•©λ‹ˆλ‹€!
